Teacher Training at YogaLoft

YogaLoft offers a state-approved teacher training program for Yoga teachers. Yoga Teacher Training is a 200 hour program registered with Yoga Alliance.

Yoga Teacher Training Program
The YogaLoft teacher training program organically developed out of Marci Tousey’s twenty years of study and experience in yoga, meditation, and somatic psychology. It emphasizes the importance of self-discovery and healing using the classic techniques of yoga and meditation in unique and creative ways. We will begin the program by focusing on your personal development with the philosophy that you are your first and most important student. Direct experience is the greatest source for gaining knowledge as well as inspiration. We will ground your practice in a yoga routine as well as help you move your practice out of routine and into creative and healing expression. We will explore the basics of hatha yoga including restorative yoga, yin yoga, and vinyasa (flow) yoga. We will study the philosophy and ethics of yoga using the eight-fold path of Patanjali’s ashtanga yoga and the Bhagavad Gita. We will also study anatomy and physiology as it relates to the physiological and psychological aspects of the asanas.

In addition to learning the basics techniques and philosophies of hatha yoga, the YogaLoft Teacher Training program will explore why is it important for a yoga teacher to be a skillful observer and a witness to their own and to their student’s movement and healing process. You will discover why it is vital to observe your students for who they are in each moment instead of through the filters of your own past experiences. You will extensively practice using the tools that help you witness including conscious breathing, meditation, oscillation of attention, and description to assist you in staying focused and present first with yourself, then with your students, and then with everything going on in your classroom. With these tools, you will begin to develop confidence expressing yourself in front of others. As you develop confidence, you can access a bottomless well of creative energy and thought that exists in everyone.

Although the principle services of the YogaLoft Teacher Training program are to provide initial training to become a yoga instructor, it is also available as continuing education to certified and registered yoga instructors. You can use this training as a foundation for any style of yoga you wish to teach. Additionally, yoga enthusiasts who want to deepen their own personal yoga and meditation practice are strongly encouraged to use this program for healing and enrichment.
